PASTELS?

slytherin Jul 08, 2004 05:06 PM

Hey boa lovers
would some of you mind explaining what exactly a pastel boa is....I concentrate on ball morphs mainly & I'm a little confused on what exactly a pastel boa is....it seems that they are just real pretty normals at a quick glance. so i was wondering what makes them special & is it recessive, co-dom??

thanks for your help

The Pastel trait in general is not a "genetic" trait, but a result in selective breeding over many years (Ronne coined the term and came up with the explanation)

It does appear to pass on when bred, but is sporadic (acts as a codominant trait, but you may end up with 1 to all of the litter showing the trait)

A pastel boa is a boa which has a reduction of black throughout its pattern and specifically through the sides and medallions. The color that most people associate with Pastels is in no way part of the Pastel trait, it is a "bonus" as you remove black more color usually will show through.

I don't buy it. Almost all "looks" are genetic in some way.

I don't believe in Pastels.

And before anybody jumps all over me for stating my opinion, and though it should not need to be said, it is just that: MY OPINION.
It should be obvious, that unless someone is specifically citing hard scientific data, anything they say is their opinion. We should not be made slaves to typing "IMO" or "IMHO" every time we say something controversial. Of course it's my opinion, I said it! But I digress...

I have seen "pastels" that were way overpriced totally outshined by excellent "normal" $74 Bci.

No one in the world ever gets what they want, and that is beautiful. Everybody dies frustrated and sad, and that is beautiful.

A large portion of the "Pastels" you see that are outdone by "normals" are not pastels, but a normal someone wanted to label with the pastel name to try and help them get a few extra bucks out of it. Also a large portion of the "normals" you claim outshine the Pastels are quite possibly Pastels that are being called normals due to the person not understanding what a Pastel is. I can think of a couple regular posters on the classified section who post rather unattractive normals as Pastels to try and justify an additional 100.00 or more to the price tag.
