What does everyone use to heat their vivs? im makeing a dart frog viv right now but dont know how to heat the temp about 12 degrees above ambient room temp. Their is no way that i can make the room warmer. I was thinking about an under tank heating pad hooked up to a thermostat. would the uth be able to make the tank warmer, or just the substrate? any advice is greatly apprieciated.

I'd try a low wattage ceramic heat emitter. During the summer though even if my house is 70 or so the inside of the tank is about 7 degrees warmer, and during the winter is really the only time i need the heat emitter.Give it a try. good luck

The best heating source to use is a suspended night-time bulb. I actually use it as a 24-hour bulb for my pumilio enclosures.
It doesn't emit that much light and it keeps the cages at the right temps.

i used a heating strip under my first tank and everyone told me not to. worked fine for me just use common sense and don't pour in cold water or the glass will crack. if you do go this route get a thermostat so you can control the heat emmitted. currently my frogs are living in temps i know are lower than in the wild, but hey my frogs aren't from the wild. they're a few generations down so why not? they're all healthy, eating, colorful and very active. i know my tank drops to as low as mid to even low 60s at night on a regular basis because my room does.
