Feeding question/problem

drasticplastic Jul 08, 2004 06:33 PM

I just purchased my first leopard about three days ago and he/she seems to be either not hungry or a picky eater. The crickets I put in there (about 3) either stay in there for a day or end up dead in the water dish. Although the worms seem to be taken pretty easy...unless the crickets get to them, not sure. Anyway, I guess I'm wondering the best method of feeding or exactly what and when to feed. I've hand fed one worm myself and the others turned up missing. I don't know what kind of worms they are...never had a pet that eats them before they are white and about a 1/2 inch long maybe.

You don't know what worms your feeding your gecko? you might want to find that out first before you feed things to your pets or take a pic and post it. If its eating worms then its doing fine, plus you only got it 3 days ago. Its going to take some time getting used to its environment.

Try reading some Info pages on the internet.

I would ask the store where you got it from and find out what they were feeding it. If it is used to worms then you might just wan to stick with that.

Also, if the worms are white and squishy and look more like catapillars they are most likely wax worms would should only be fed in moderation (they are the twinkie of the reptile world!). If they are long, skinny and hard a yellowish brown exoskeleton with legs at the front of the body they are probably mealworms which are a good diet when properly gut loaded.

I just got a leo today he took as many crickets as i put in( is stoped at 9, there not the big crickets tho, anyway he doesn't take mealworms, atleast not yet. I choped a superworms head off, all he did was lick the calcium off it then left it. But he eat alot of crickets. Anyway if he is takin worms not crikets then hes probably picky. The store must have fed him worms only. Just giveit time, try dangling a freshly killed crickets in front off him, or put some half dead ones in worm dish... thats just my opinion.
