Housing Pacman Frog

thomas_dixon888 Jul 08, 2004 07:50 PM

Hello,
I want to house a pacman in a 40 gallon long (36x18x13). What's the BEST substrate? Bed-a-Beast. I'll also use moss to help the humidity. How many watts of uv do i need? I'll also have plants too. Additional advice/info is greatly appriciated.

Thanks in advance,
Thomas

WOW that's a big tank for a pacman. You do know they hardly ever move right??? Anyway, lighting is for your pleasure and he will most likely hide when it's on. Don't get him too hot. The bed-a-beast works well. Not all like it but I have good luck with with all of my frogs. I don't use moss for any of my pacman frogs, if I did I would NEVER see them. With just the bed-a-beast it's a trick to find them from time to time. It also holds moisture pretty well along with a misting of water every day or two.

Good Luck

Thanks.

I know they hardly evermove, and 40 gallon is alot of room. But it wouldn't hurt to give more space. Thanks again.

I like the statement about more room won't hurt him. As long as the frog has a place to hide and can find water easily, a larger tank definitely is the way to go. My frogs all became more active after being placed in larger enclosures and even soaked more. They even began to eat better than before.

Bed-a-beast works great for pacmans. I use it in my tanks most of the time. Sometimes I also mix it with peat moss. As for a hiding spot just throw in some moss. It will use it trust me, they love to burrow in this stuff. Just make sure you spot clean because they always leave surprises in the moss in the very same spot they occupy. I bet your pacman must feel like its in the wild with all that room in a 40g. He's a lucky frog. Don't spoil him too much though, they tend to get kind of obese from being couch potatoes.
