I tried this for my tegu (about 33" long), and he just does a few "death rolls" like a croc and the leash flies back and hits me in the face! How the heck do you guys keep these leashes on?

It's kind of a two person job to put it on; one to hold the tegu and another to fit the leash and pull it snug. The only reason for this is that Loiosh is too big to fit easily on one hand, and he sort of resents it if I let his back end be unsupported.

I can get the leash on no problem. He sits in my lap long enough to get it on, and I make it nice and snug. When he starts walking and as soon as he feels the resistance from the leash, then he starts the death rolling. Any way to avoid this?

When I put the leash on, I either let Loiosh climb around on me and restrict him with my hand, or I let him down where he can go where he wants without interferance at first. Rather than let him feel constant resistance, I use tiny tugs to let himm know he can't go further. If he doesn't want to listen, I pick him up. He seems smart enough to have learned that if he wants to explore, he's got to respond to the signals.

Well, I made my Ping Pong a leash, after noticing that the commercial lizard leash I had bought a long time ago had one of the clasps I needed. I found some cord, and made one right here, without even having to go to the store (yay!!).
He was a little stubborn at first, because he didn't want to stay still mostly, but once it was on, he didn't even notice it. He went about his business as usual. Hope he stays that calm when he gets big ^-^
I let him walk about the halls for a little, which confused him a bit since I was letting him stray from me, which he's not used to, but he seemed to not be bothered by the leash at all. He was confused by my feet though, because he wasn't familiar with them. Haha!
