The story of "Snow White"....

Guy Scavone II Jul 08, 2004 10:58 PM

I was sorting through some old photos tonight for my website and I came across the very first pic I took of Snow White... she was only 3 Hours old.

She really was that lavendar... when I layed eyes on her I couldn't believe she was real.

This is her now... the "Princess" of my collection.

I just couldn't part with her. Everyone said... "why would you keep a female Snow?! She'll never breed". Well.. when I bought my DH Snows 4 years ago I bought them with the hope of someday producing a Snow. I finally did it last year, why would I ever give her up?!?!

Guess we're going to find out in a couple of years if Snow Females are good breeders... She was the biggest baby in the litter, the first to shed, and still currently the largest animal in the group (i've kept every single one from that litter)

Time will tell, but in the meantime I'll go on enjoying sitting on the couch watching a movie with my lil princess!

Thanks,

Blaze, it's been shown that Albino Females do not always make the best breeder females. I think this was more the case in years past where the vast majority of Albino's were inbred. Today it seems that more and more the albino gene is being outcrossed and it is only getting stronger. With that in mind I've noticed far more Albino mothered litters in the past year or two then I ever saw before.... maybe I'm just paying more attention now?!

The theory on the Snow was that if an Albino Female was a poor breeder that a Snow Female, genetically weaker then the albino, would be even worse.

I'll keep everyone posted on what happens with her. 06' Should be the first year I attempt to breed her.

No one in the world ever gets what they want, and that is beautiful. Everybody dies frustrated and sad, and that is beautiful.

Linda, she'll be 11 Months old tomorrow. She's finally hitting that stride where she's putting on weight much quicker now.

I'll snap some new pics of her after her next shed.

GUY:

I too heard that about snow gemales and even female albinos, but there have been litters from albino females so its hard to say it was impossible. Being you got this girl from your own litter and she is looking healthy and you can grow her up, all you can do is try and see if the possibility can work out. If you had bought her with the intention to try breeding her, then it be more of a good try indeed. But what can it hurt to try when she is from your own stock, its well worth trying.

Good luck keep us posted.....me too.

Cya...

Tony
