Last night I was sleazing around the local pet shops as I do from time to time to time...in between shows.
In there was a turtle, what would look like at first glance, a Southern Painted. Except this shell was absolutely gorgeous!
Lots of red, and the carapace was a medium green olive.
The color of a Western Painted, or Midland Painted. And of course with the bright orange stripe down the middle like a southern. I have never seen a southern like this.
This was one beautiful turtle. The colors were soo rich and vivid!
I was told it was a Louisiana Southern Painted. Now I did'nt ask the turtle for ID, and began to wonder,do turtles have different colors from different regions?I have boas, and of course there are different locality boas. Are there intergrades from captive bred painteds being in close proximity?
I have seen painted turtles by the thousands in my life, fishing all over the country. Bass fishing, in swamps...
and have never seen a painted turtle like this.
I would have bought it, but when I walked in I was asked if I wanted to adopt a leopard gecko. So I did...I hope this turtle does'nt sell! Once I re-arrange tanks...again...I want it!!!!
Ok I'm rambling, but has anyone else seen color variances like this? In my 30 something years, I have never seen a painted like this.
