New Pacman acting weird, discolored.

Papagolash Jun 20, 2003 10:49 PM

Hi all, I recently bought an Albino Pacman frog last Saturday. He's I'm guessing about a month or so old. In a week he's seemed to double in size, but that's not the reason why I post. Yesterday when I got home from work I noticed my frog acting strange. He kept rubbing himself with his feet, and sucking in his gut, on each side. He also kept opening his mouth, looking like he was trying to puke of something. It looked like his skin was irritated, or something wa hurting inside him. He did this for about an hour, until I decided to push him into his water dish, thinking that maybe something on him was irritating him. After being in his dish for a bit he stopped acting weird about 10 minutes later. Then today I noticed that his skin was looking dry, and that his "white" areas were turning green. The green really doesn't look right, and the majority of the green is on both sides of his gut. Also in the last 2-3 days he doesn't seem to have eaten any of his crickets. Can anyone help me out as to what might/might not be wrong with my frog, and why he was spazzing out?

My setup for my frog is a 20 gallon tank with Naturebed for the bedding. It's that brick of bedding that you put in a bucket and water dish and it expands 7/8 times bigger. I also have a water dish and a fake plant kinda overhanging it. Humidity and temp are between 70-80. I use dechlorinator drops for my mister and water dish. My lighting is a UV-B Flourescent light, that I leave on for about 10 hours each day. I feed him pinhead crickets, which I feed with Gut Load.

The picture(if it works) is of my frog from 2 days ago. Notice the green showing on his stomach and back, which wasn't as showing as it is now.

oops, messed up the last line, should read " Notice the green showing on his stomach and back, which wasn't showing as much as it is now."

sounds like he could be shedding but I don't know why he would hang his mouth open unless he got a mouth full of substrate. You can feed him bigger crickets than pin heads,pac-mans have HUGE mouths, try small - medium crix.

Sounds like it was shedding, which always looks painful but it is completely normal! Search the forum and you will see about 100 other people freaking out about it.

How long does it take for them to shed? also when they shed shouldn't they be leaving skin behind? He was doing it again last night. Also if he's shedding should I tke the crickets out of the cage?

My frog eats his shed skin,so you may never see it.I would take out the crix until he is done & make sure to mist him twice a day and keep the humidity up so it will be easier for him to shed.

Thanks, today his skin look a bit pale and grungy looking, so I'm think he is shedding. I'll take the crickets out and mist him, thanks for the replies everyone

most, if not all frogs eat their discarded skin when they shed. i would recommend researching your new frog more!

If your frog is still having trouble in a few days post about it, it may be something else but probobly is shedding. YOu may have the tank too dry or it may be a substrate it don't like. Anything will bug these frogs. Just keep an eye on it. Should be no problems after a few days though.

Thanks for the responce. I've given him a couple of days and he has been moving around more, and has been eating, or at least attempting to. He rarely ever moves if he knows I'm watching, so I set up my webcam to watch him, and I can watch him while I'm at work, so I know he's moving around and eating. His skin has slowly become this weird pale tinted brown color, and it looks all old and dry. Reminds me a bit of how my old snake used to look before he shed. So I'm guessing my frog will shed any day now. How long does it take for them to shed? I haven't been able to find any info on the web about it.
