Answer needed quickly on feeding tads!!!

shopunke Jul 09, 2004 08:45 AM

Last night the eggs began to squirm, they were beginning to hatch. Wee! I got pics! Anyway, question, yeah...

I wake up this morning, take a whole bunch of pictures of my new little swimming buddies, and realise.. oh crud. When should I start feeding them? I know they eat algae but there are currently no weeds in the enclusure. Just rain water their egg sacks some of the muck I caught them in.

I went out in my garage into my critter stash and found Froglet and Tadpole "bites", this is what I used last year. Any recommendations on when to start feeding these?

Also I was wondering if they would enjoy a bloodworm... Pre-packaged in all its glorified larval state, surrounded by yummy gel. If it sank, they'd probably like to suck on the slimy gel... right? :

Thank SO much in advance!

I raised mt GTF tads on frozen spinach pieces; although I've heard that there are better alternative greens.

Tad bites are useless & dirty tank water

Do you have any more in-depth info? That helped barely.

Why have you waited until now to prepare for the tads? Scrambling at the last minute to care for such sensitive creatures is a no-no

Anyways, I've found algae wafers were readily accepted by my tads, also used spinach pieces, though lettuce is recommended.

Also, aquatics from capture site, minus any predatory insects that may hitch a ride.

How's that?

The honest reason as to why I wated so long on getting prepared- I didn't realise they hatched out so freaking tiny. -_-; Yes, I'm an idiot.

That helped very much, thank you! I've found that they do in fact like bloodworms... so that seems to be working, along with the pellets. What is an Algae Wafer?

Also... Erm... how in the heck am I supposed to clean their water when they're this tiny?

I undertook the tedious method of siphoning water daily w/ turkey baster. It allowed for a thorough removal of waste. Refill gently to avoid stress on tads.

I siphoned every other day; depending on food intake. Which species are these?

Algae wafers are offered by several companies; I believe Hikari is one.

Thanks, I'm going to have to try that method of cleaning. Today I got them tropical fish flakes and they seem to like those. I'll check into the Wafers ASAP.

I'm pretty sure these are Cuban Tree Frogs, but I'm not sure yet. Odds are yes, they are... But there are MANY species of frog in my neighborhood alone down here in Florida. You should hear all of the calls!

They're growing so fast I may have to release a few by Monday. I'm hoping to raise at least 5 or so to froglettes. The others have a home already lined up out in the wild.

I'm hoping to keep ONE of them as a pet, but how would I go about getting them food small enough?

Sorry, I'm rather chatty this evening ^_^;

Feed froglets fruitflies, pinhead crix when large enough.

I started my gtf's of on the smallest of cultured fruit flies (available on-line, many pet shops), then the larger variety. Dust w/ repto-cal or similar product couple times /week.
