what did they die of?

stomperUT Jul 09, 2004 12:42 PM

Hello,

I bought three baby balls on june 26th off of reptibid. Two of the three have died. I had all three in identical setups. Temp highs 92-94 lows 79-81. these were ambient temps. I used 20 gal aquariums with undertank heaters and screen tops. the tops were 50% covered and a light dome with a night light on the open end of screen. 50-60% humidity. one went into shed and I used a damp towel to raise the humidity to 70-75%. They have water at all times(reptisafe treated). I used lizard liner for substrate. A brach to climb on. Hide spots on both ends.

I never saw the two that died drink and they never ate for me.
The one that is alive and well refused the first meal but took the second. I only offered f/t.

6/26-received snakes
7/2-refused meal
7/7-only one took meal
7/8&7/9-deaths

I didn't even know they were in this much trouble. I only realized the death because of the smell in the room. I checked them everyday and they both seemed well until the deaths. One I found dead yesterday under her carpet in the middle of the tank. The other I witnesses her thrashing this morning and constricting herself like she had prey.she waould lay upside down for a while and then swing her head wildly. she kept opening her mouth and sticking her tongue out and keeping it out. They both had sunken in throats(looked like a U when laying upside down. and a stretch of their bellys were dark about mid body. One had brown spots under her chin as well.

I have another ball besides those three that has the same environment and is doing awesome. I got him the same week from a different seller. He took f/t from the first feed and has shed twice in three weeks.

From the symptoms I described can anyone tell me what it sounds like?

I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Steve

It's hard to say. How much research did you do on the seller? It's pretty common these days for unhealthy imports to be sold "left and right". Did all three come together? That is, in the same bag? If so, they may have transmitted something. Did you quarantine them? I hope so. Clean and disinfect everything they touched and you touched after touching them. Then carefully monitor the rest of your BPs - unless they were quarantined.

err....that sounds like it may be IBD....that is a bit scary. Did you notice any star gazing or problems with coordination??? I would take the other to the vet and possibly get a necropsy ont he one that died...that could be really bad.
