I am knew, so do the needful and oblidge

FR Jul 09, 2004 01:04 PM

For kind and humanitarian reasons, please bring me joyful and terrariengrobe.

My Zwergwaran has been feeding on lg. rats, until this past week. He has always consumed his rat, with joy and purpose. This time, he did not consume his rat. Please understand, rats are a delicacy in my country, it is so shameful to waste.

I am standing beside myself with joy and feelings of Stachelschelschwanzwaran, waiting for the information to cure all the evil doings of this monitor. thank you, Sunny Edgeofocean

I agree, what boat did some of these people fall off of. Where did they learn English, and why did they buy a monitor. If I was as young as some of these people who buy monitors the first time are my parents are the type that know responsibility to actually care for pets, food, caring for the animal, knowing something about the animal, and vet visits takes money and time. I would have been in trouble back then for attemping to bring home anything other than fish, heck a rabbit was a good animal to raise and learn responsibility for. I learned back then and later I saw why that a pet such as a monitor or Tegu or large snake was out of my league because I couldnt care for the animal properly on my own let alone pay for vet visits or food, and build (pay for materials) a proper cage etc. I got up today and was blown away by some of these new posts.

that at least some of the posts below were jokes. They were all, key and combinations of key, irritating newbie posts. Almost have to be someone playing games.

If you look, there is some education involved in those posts. You know conterdicting knowledge.

You have to admit, I have some faith in people, they couldn't be that many #$$^#&*%#$$# ones, could there?

By the way, Zwergwaran= V.gilleni and Stachelschwanzwaran= V.acanthurus. FR

One thing you may want to consider... School is out for the summer, and by now, all the kids are bored. With nothing better to do, they show up here.

Just my thought on why they are all coming out of the woodwork.

Monitor lizards. Maybe if they worried about finishing their education before they worry about which pet will freak out their neighbors and family or be the coolest amoung their friends for the longest.

Hy,

I don't like some of the recent posts either but there is no reason to complain about somebodys bad English because he did not write the text in English. I am quite sure he used babelfish or some other translation programm. Doesn't make it better so.
But I have to admit for a beginner it is not that easy to make the translation on his own. And babelfish doesn't know "names" like "Stachelschwanzwaran" (Do you know what monitor that is without looking it up?).
And there is no such thing as a good monitor forum in German. And if someone isn't selfconfident or simply can't speak English he chooses the easiest way and makes use of babelfish.

Hope you now know where the bad English comes from

Best regards,

Timo

Its the bad and extrememly embarassing english from our own American children which should spend time learning how to read and write not buying nile and savannah monitors at cheap prices then worry about how to lie to their parents to get it and keep it after all they cannot possibly care for them correctly. I figured out earler it cost me in food alone for Sobek from 2 months old until she was 1 year old an astounding $265, not including electricity, 4 cages that she rapidly outgrew, bulbs, wire and other supplies for custome lights, plywood etc etc. That $265 is an estimate, I think its higher but that was bulk mice at .35-.50 each, quail at .29 each, roaches of various types and sizes for .05-.25 each, crickets from small amounts to bulk at $15 delivered per 1000, a few cans of monitor food, small medium and large chickens at .25, .45, and .69 each. This doesnt include other foods from some free gerbils, and people food she stole while being out roaming. I cant believe todays parents arent doing their jobs and they dont educate themselves on what their kids are doing or buying.
I dont mind those from other countries that may not do good with english at all, they need no excuse nor was this about them.
Ya know I spent a couple times what I spent on food for caging alone for her in that year, not including cages after that first year or food and more and more basking lights running.

I thought this was a place where newbies are SUPPOSED to come and hear from the more experienced keepers how to care for their animal(s). And just because someone is young does not make them incapable of caring for an animal properly.

-just thought i'd throw that in there.

I said PROPERLY care for them, at under 18 their parents are responsible for them therefore responsible for the animal, especially an animal that can live 15-30 years, twice or more of the age many kids want to get them at. I posted about what it cost me to raise 1 monitor for 10 months not including cages etc , just food alone(the most expensive part by far is PROPER caging), the unexpected vet bills are way out of any minors reach, not including electricity etc etc etc. I have nothing against a responsible adult who is supporting the animal themselves buying them, but from the beginning the parents are responsible for their childs pets, period. If a child gets hurt or maimed by a monitor and goes to a hospital thats all our hobby needs, more restrictions, more laws, more attempts at banning them etc. Theres a big picture involved here not just because some kid thinks its cool for a few weeks to have a monitor for a pet, until they lose interest.

Its even more embarassing when english kids can't speak or write english properly. We invented the language after all.

I have no concern which direction this forum takes. Its all about fun for me. I will enjoy what I think is fun, and ignore the rest. After all, no matter what is said here, I always have the monitors to fall back on. Thanks FR

One of the problems is that these inexperienced people come to the forums only after they've realized something is wrong. So much time and effort would be saved on everybody's part if they read other posts and visited the forum often. I guess people are just so short-sighted that they can't see ahead till they hit a wall.
And that's why we get soo many people posting for the first time saying, "my baby nile/sav isn't being nice. But he sure is cute, especially when I'm feeding him babyfood/dog food/pizza. what's wrong with him?"

I also love how many first time keepers won't admit that their reasons for only wanting either a nile or sav has nothing to do with the price.

I have a friend that had a Nile monitor before I ever got into monitors... I wish I knew then what I do now... he had the thing for over a year and it was still only 18" long... then it died... duh... he claimed that you could feed it only crickets with vit. powder and keep it small.... and this guy is a frickin science major at MSU (bio or pharm or something like that)... some people are so frickin stupid that they want to believe an animal will be exactly what they want in a pet... so we used to rag on him saying he fed his poor Lizzard french fries and jellybeans and killed it. I felt so bad for the nile...

oh yeah the guy spent plenty of time on the computer yet never bothered to read about his pet.... hmmm, and I wonder why I'm not very good friends with him anymore?
