My new female ball python. Could this be a yellow belly?

MarkS Jul 09, 2004 01:48 PM

Here are some pics of a female ball python that I adopted from the herp society. She cost me all of 5 bucks for the adoption fee and she feeds like a champ. She also has a rather interesting look, kind of granite like markings with a clear light colored belly with stripes down the sides. With all the talk lately of granites and yellow bellies it got me kind of curious to find out what everyone else thinks.

So is this a possible granite or yellow belly? I'm still kind of fuzzy on the physical signs.

I would say that it is neither! If anything it would be what some are calling "clear belly's" which at this time are not proven to be anything, also something you may already know is that alot of het pieds have the same kind of belly striping like this animal has, either way it is definitely NOT a yellow belly at all, it looks different than a yellow belly all the way around!!!

Thanks Tony, I kind of suspected that she was not one, but with all the talk about them lately I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. Actually most of my ball pythons have clear bellies and some of them have some striping down the sides (but not this much) but she's the only one I have so far that has that much black speckling in the pattern. In any case, I think she's still a great find. You gotta love any ball python that feeds readily on frozen thawed rats.

Thanks again for your advice.

That's a really cool belly. I have never seen anything like that before.

ya many months ago before all the belly talk really took off I noticed she had alot more pattern than any of my other snakes, so I put her on the scanner so everyone could see her belly.

Since then I have a 100% het female albino that has some black specks on her belly but it isn't anywhere near this ones. Maybe one day she will show some strange gene no one knows about yet(wishful thinking).

She will be with my male albino next breeding season so time will tell.

But I still really want to see some pictures of these yellow bellies, I hope someone posts a good one soon.

Mark, I agree she is a keeper regardless ... As you know at this point anything that is "different" is worth holding back to see what happens down the road , these stange balls have always been around all the interest has just caused those animals to show their true colors so to speak, it's a great thing as this captive breeding will continue to uncover even more cool genes in the future, producing animals that would take hundreds maybe thousands of years to pop up in the wild . The designer Ball Python craze is here to stay that's for sure, as we are just getting started!!!!
