Heating Vision Cage?

snklvr Jul 09, 2004 03:14 PM

Hi-I just bought some Vision cages #332 36x28x18,what is the best way to heat these?I havee other cages not Vision and use heating pads but they aren't in the cages but underneeath I would guess that won't work with these.I keep the room on the cooler side so they need heat.THe place wheere the light goes looks starnge I mean you have to set it way down in there and I'm not sure how it will be with another stackeed on top.I'm sorry if this sounds stupid.HA!I just was curious of the beest way.Any help would be appreciated,If you have any photos with your setup that would be greeat, thanks so much,

THanks,Sondra

Although I don't have any pictures to show you, I have the set-up you are talking about. I heat my Vision #332 cage with a 100 watt ceramic heat emitter. I use the CHE in conjunction with a thermostat. The cage I have on top gets great belly heat for the boa inside it, being that it is directly over the Visions heat source. I have had zero problems with this set-up so far.
Good luck,
Eric

I have a bunch of Visions. I heat them all with under tank heat pads controlled with thermostats. The heat radiates up thru the bottom of the cage.

I wouldn't use a 100 watt ceramic heat emitter. Those heat emitters get up to 600 degrees F. More than hot enough to melt any plastic cage. A snake much prefers bottom heat to overhead heat.

A 60 watt is plenty if you need over head heat.

The heat pads are a much more efficient means to heat a boa or a python.

1st, I'd likeo say that I am very happy with these cages overall. They clean easy, easy to handle. Like the Vision people said, they are stackable but there are some downsides(its not the most ridgid plastic). The light shrouds can make the cage above them very hot, even with the lowest watt incandecent. That and if the light ever goes out, they have to be unstacked. Each level of enclosures heats diferently than the next, so you'll have to run each level with a thermostat controlled undertank heater. Now my set-up is a little overkill, I've stacked them 5 levels high. I would recommend a frame for this, 4x4 legs with 2x4 supports. With a set-up that is 3 or less high a cheap way to stack and still make changing lights easy, are plain jane bricks set on the 2nd longest side(that may not make sense, the side that is around 3.5 inches on a 2.25 x 3.5 x7.75 inch brick). You still won't be able to take the clamp lamp out, but can still change the light. I think ceramic heat emitters would work best for heat, but I like a well lit cage. Makes the snakes look better- optimal viewing pleasure, so to speak. Nice to see you here.
