Would this cage setup be good?

gsir8 Jul 09, 2004 10:40 PM

A 40 gallon long cage. 36 x 18 x 13. A 100 watt daybulb (not basking), a UTH, and any other furniture such as rocks, and a tree to climb on.

I will keep paper towels in till he gets bigger if I buy a baby.

Would this be a good setup?

a basking light is essential,a uvb bulb is essential although 100watts of either seems excessive to me,and i have a 4x2x2 and i only use 40 watts per bank(of basking areas). The size of tank would be ok for a single animal but i would add some sort of shelving or rocks around the perimeter to give more "usable space" as the collareds are very adept at running the rockfacesAlso its kool to watch them do this vertical wall runningIf the collared is wild caught then id definately go bigger as they have known the vast expanses of natural home and therefore seem to hate the "box" there in,no matter how spacious it seems to you.Collareds get about quick and very soon they "run" into the invisble forcefield that holds them back from the "bigspace",your room,so i'd try out the 40 and see how it goes if theres excessive glass banging, try something bigger.Ive got 3 in a 4x2x2 as ive said and i still see them running outta space,so what i'd like is to biuld a 10x5x5 for them but what i iwant and what i can afford are always 2 different matters!
hope this helps, and just so you know this is my personal experience which is by no means that of an expert

I meant a bulb that is not really directing the light to one particular spot. Also, how much do the UVB housings cost? What wattage basking bulb should I get then?
