egg hatching

lismil Jul 09, 2004 10:51 PM

I have been into geckos for quite a while. About 6 months ago I started getting mates for all the geckos I had. I have never bred before, but, as a lot of them such as the uroplatus may not be imported much longer, I thought Id start trying my hand at breeding. I bought an incubator, and have had a few clutches from my leopard geckos, fat tails, tibetian frog eyed gecko, and my mossy leaf tailed gecko. Only problem is, I cant get the moisture "just right", and all my eggs have gone bad. Ive tried putting the eggs on vermiculite, sphanum moss, and sand. It seems like no matter how much water I put in the substrate, even if its just a couple drops, then the eggs mold. I tried just putting water in the bottom of the incubator, and none in the substrate, and then they just shrivel up to almost nothing. I know that the care for the eggs is a little different for each species, such as the uroplatus must be cooler, and the tibetian frog eye must be drier, etc., but any help would be great, as I have more species that will probably lay eggs in the future also.

sounds like maybe there isn't enough air circulation in the incubator. does the deli cup the eggs are in have holes to let the water evaporate?
