How long till egg pips?

PythonChick Feb 07, 2003 01:10 PM

My leo egg has started to "deflate" on schedule. I can see the baby inside, but how long will it be until she starts to pip? I hear that it only take a few min to a hour for a baby to fully emerge after piping, but how long does it take for her to pip after the eggs deflates a little?

Thanks!

June

Of the hundreds of Leo eggs I've hatched out I've found that they come on out pretty fast, within 12hrs of the first slit. Now for the sad part, if they can't make it by themselves they will not make it ...... I know everyone here will say," Ahhhhh you have to help it" but it just never works out that way, if they are not strong enough to get out on their own they are just not viable as an animal. I have a 97% hatch rate to date but I get 1 or 2 every spring that go full term but just can't get out.

I can understand what you're saying, but how long does it take UNTIL it pips? It only started to "deflate" yesterday afternoon, so I just need to know when it's going to start pipping.

Thanks!

Well.......it should take about 2 hours to fully emerge, but it usualy depends on the leo itself.......but on average, its about 2 hours.

heres a link to albeys site to see a leo hatching

Well, since you guys said that it should pip with-in 2 hours I decided to open up the egg. Well, it was fully developed, but dead. I was really hoping this one would make it. All of the other eggs I have had were not fertile. They were all 1sts for the mom leos..but so was this one. I have fattened them up, so maybe the next few eggs will be better. Just hate having to wait so long for the babies. This one was laid 12/10/02. Kind of depressing to wait all that time and have a baby be still-born (so-to-speak). Better luck next time I guess.

Thanks for the answers anyway.
