Questions on feeding month old pine

Doug-P Jul 09, 2004 11:22 PM

I just got my first Northern Pine one month ago. It is 6 weeks old now. This is also my first experience with a hatchling.
I have fed him 4 times, once every 7 days. He is large enough for fuzzy's, so thats what I have givin him. Problem is, he just starts eating them down, without killing them first. On one larger fuzzy, it started to struggle to much to swallow, so he coiled on it and killed it before eating. He seamed uncoordinated, but got the job done. Is this something that will take time on the snakes part to become proficient at?
Also, he has a big appetite, but gets turned off easily. Last feeding, he struck at the second fuzzy, but it jumped, and landed on his head, after that, he did not want to go near the fuzzy.
I dont want him to get skiddish feeding habits.
Any advice is welcome.

one thing you could do is feed it frozen/thawed fuzzies. they take without any trouble and you won't have to worry about the snake being " attacked" by the mouse, a serious consideration as the snake grows and will eat larger prey.

Thanks for the imput.
I want to keep on live items. I plan on throwing a thawed in the mix as a second offering, from time to time.
I guess I will feed him items to large to eat alive, and hopefully he'll figure out what to do.
