what size tank would a full grown RES need?

well honestly, it all depends. one sex gets larger than the other. I believe that the females can get up to 12 inches or more in shell length, while the males normally top out around 10 inches. the 'general' rule of thumb is 10 gallons of water to 1 inch of turtle. which would mean for a full grown male (guessing around 10 inches long) that you would need 100 gallon tank... and so on. but turtles can 'survive' in less water than that. but this is the general rule so that the turtles have PLENTY of room to roam around.... of course you would need a larger tank for a feamle RES! hope this helps

how much would a 100 gallon tank cost and were can i get one?

You can get one at most pet stores. Try glasscages.com for some price comparisons. They have great prices but if you are not close I don't think they will ship a glass aquarium. They do bring them to reptile shows if they are going to be at one in your area. The cost of the tank isn't going to be your only expense, you probably need a stand as well as a filter that will be adequate for your 100 gallons.

Good luck! Nancy

I have a 75g tank for my RES, who is about 12 years old. Her shell is about 7" in length, but I think she is undersized because she grew up in a 10, then 20 gallon tank until 4 years ago. With the tank, stand, filter and lighting I think I have $400 into my setup. I have pics and stuff on http://gavush.tripod.com/ziggy
