i'm a herper from way back. i used to raise assorted vipers (african and north american), arachnids, a gator, many varieties of lizards, snakes, etc... i've raised the all too popular nile and savannah in the past. i haven't been in the hobby for a while, and i just bought a new house that will allow the space needed for a monitor. i've done my research, but i'd like some input from some others that have raised monitors. i'm considering either a white or black throat because of the size AND typical disposition. but, the savs also have a great demeanor without getting too large... have any you had both? (i'm looking for some "experienced" opinions rather than biased feelings.)

I've had one of each... so not a lot of expirience but I'll tell you there is a big difference between a 3-4 foot and a 5-6 foot lizzard... Black throats are MUCH stronger... but much prettier... I cannot give you any general differences because I have only had one of each... but if you have any questions feel free to ask.
