is 33% possible het for albinism possible?

kidcalvert Jul 10, 2004 12:31 PM

i know how one determines 50% and 66%, but someone is telling me they have a 33% het for albinism. what would the dam and sire be to come up with a 33% probability? (i'm feeling kind of slow this morning). plus, this person is advertising it as stock from a very well known company (whom i won't mention here) thanks for the help.

A 66%er bred to a normal.......calling the offspring 33%ers sounds more enticing than just normal.

If you bred a large number of unproven 66% chance het albino balls to a large number of normals then 33% of the babies would be het albino.

However, if you are talking about 1 such ball it is either a 50% het or a near 0% het depending on if it's 66% chance parent hit it's chance to be het albino or not. Without knowing about the parent, "33% chance" conveys your odds but you should understand that it's an all or nothing shot depending on the parent. If it's a female it's probably worth more than a normal but not as much as say a 50% chance het that isn't as removed from the chance due to having a for sure het parent.
