potty shy ball pythons

nogard Jul 10, 2004 12:36 PM

My ball was eating regularly, drinking water and very active. he had problems not going poop, after two months of soaking in tepid water, saline solutions, and no success. I took him to the vet and the vet suggested putting him in a dark shoebox, with absolutely no light and no water, the next day there it was a huge turd, and of course I thought it might have been a retained skull, but no he was just potty shy anybody else have any problems like this?

Alot of people worry about snakes getting bound up or impacted with aspen or whatever, but most times the reason a Ball python does not defecate is because the humidity is too low, or they have a lack of drinking water.

Also, some hold it alot longer than others, just individual variations.

My humidity is at 65-70% is that good? Also I provide him with plenty of water, fresh every day, and what about the shoebox? Any Ideas

Your humidity is perfect. Never heard of the shoebox thing, but if it works, do it. Sometimes when they're fed small meals it takes a while for them to build up enough to have to go.
