want a gtp

nogard Jul 10, 2004 12:39 PM

I really want one but need some info first,
How much humidity and temperature do they need?
What cage dimensions do they need?
How is their temperament?
What problems are associated with this species?
And finally, Is there care anything remotley close to a emerald tree boa?

First may I ask you why you want a GTP? The temperment question is hard to answer because they are all individuals. They are not ball pythons but some can get pretty tame while others won't even allow a hand in the cage. Temprement isnt that important because they are kind of like chameleons for the snake world. They get stressed easily and kind of look don't touch. I have never had an ETB so I can't answer that one. A problem assosiated with the species maybe the difficulty of getting youngsters to eat? Cage size- many reccomend a 24" cube but it is probably better if it is longer than that. I'm just a newbie but I hoped I helped.

I want a look but dont touch animal that is not "hot" and can fit into a 3ftx3ftx2ft and is not as plain as an emerald tree boa and gtp's beautiful animals with so many variations.

What kind of reptile experience do you have?

I am 22 yrs old, I currently breed, sutherland stain axanthic balls, Frilled dragons(NG), orange sunburst chameleons(vieled), Albino red tails, and albino, green, and labrynth burms. I have also bred Emerald Tree Boas, and Cooks tree boas( or tried with cooks) I have 2 nile monitors(1 is 4ft and the other a little over 5ft) personal pets, 1 reticulated gila monster WC with permit. As far as decorative reptiles, or "hot" reptiles, I have owned beside the gila, Is the EMT's, the Cook's, and a gabby(gaboon viper, was owned for a little over a week until I decided that was a risk I was not willing to take for my girlfriend and soon to be born daughter) So in my "career" as a herp keeper(11yrs and all started with a eastern garter) I have had my share of herps, the herps I breed are for research that I hope will get me a scholarship to Colorado State University Veterinary School, and also because frills and balls are just awesome pets. So far though I havent gotten around to the GTPs but I would really like a pair, as far as herp experience, do you think that I am qualified enough to get a pair, Not Trying To Seem Rude, you own one at least, and know them alot better than I do Im sure so I am asking if anything listed above is at all similiar to owning a GTP

I think you are absolutlet qualified for a GTP!!! They are not hard to care for at all if the basic requirements are met. Good Luck!!!

I would definitely recommend researching as much as possible so taht the questions that you asked are common knowledge to you.

Also, purchase "The Complete Chondro" by Greg Maxwell

Good luck!!!
