Is this a problem? (picture)

dmlove Jul 10, 2004 12:43 PM

Well, recently we acquired a new male, an Orange Sandfire. He is about one year old. Since we got him we have noticed an unusual fat gullet under his chin. He is on the right in the picture, compared to one of our females, Artemis (pastel, left). Her "gullet" isnt all fat like his, but his is nice and chubby. Is this an extra store of fat or is this a problem? The thing is, im worried because no other of my fat beardies have this, so it might be a problem? Thanks for the replies!

It could be fluid which can be caused from too much Vit. A

You can try checking the chart at Beautiful Dragons & see if you have been feeding too much A. Also try adding a little Cabbage for a couple days. I use a shredded cabbage from a bag. Just add a little to the top of your veggies. I believe it's the High Vit. C that counteracts it.

I haven't had to do that for about a year now but it worked for us when we did do it.

Let me know if it works.

With it's location it's possible it could be a goiter developing in which case cabbage would be contraindicated as it contains high levels of goiterigens. Best bet take it to the vet.

Hope this helps.

It looks alot like edema which is caused from too much Vit. A, but I'm not a vet. How long have you had him? And did you have him quarantined & vet-checked before putting him with your female?
