Is it time to trim this beak?

DaviDC. Jul 10, 2004 12:57 PM

This is Ollie, my 4 year old Hermanns. Today I noticed the size of his beak & wonder if it should be trimmed. There's only one vet in the area that treats reptiles so it will have to be a Saturday morning appointment thing.

It's not that bad but you can take an emory board and take off a bit. If you do this gently you can do it yourself. It's good to get them used to it when they ar young so you don't have a hassle later.

As a former Air Force medic, I saw all sorts of gross things & consider myself to be a stoic person, but for some reason, the thought of doing this to my favorite reptile creeps me out. I'll have to think about this one for a while.

I'll try and post a picture to show you how simple it is with the right animal.
I have one that needs a trim and I don't know how I'm going to do that and I have a few more that were severely deformed and I'm in the process of 'fixing' it but that's an on going process.

I had no clue you were supposed to trim there beaks. I have a Herman tort....how often do you need to do this? Can you give them somthing that they can chew on that keeps it down or do you have to trim them yourself? Thanks!!!!
