The venom is typical 'Bothrops type' in that it will cause severe local swelling and tissue death, possibly leading to the loss of a finger. While not likely to be lethal due to the smaller size of the snakes, there can be significant permanent scaring. In more severe cases, the blood chemistry can be profoundly affected (and deaths have occurred).
