if its black mold do not open the container, the spores will go air born. move the cultures to another area with more air flow. and wash or throw away anything you used in making the last cultures; spoon, cups, mixers, anything. what i'm saying is use all new things. if you've opened the containers or cleaned the black mold in an area then that area to me is contaminated for a few weeks. basically, start over. even if you use some FF from those containers for the next one they may have mold spores on them.
You didn't say what kind of culture you are using. I've had tremendous success with this simple recipe:
3 banana's
1/2 cup rolled oats
1 package yeast
Mush banana's with oats. Place enough of the mixture into a glass canning jar to fill the bottom to 1 inch. Sprinkle a pinch of yeast on top of the culture. Cut the handles off 1-2 plastic grocery bags (depending on how many jars you use). Take one handle and push the middle of it into the culture leaving two strips well above the top of the culture. This will provide a place for the Drosophilia to dry their feet. Poke small holes in the canning jar top (usually a thin metal disk). Place the disk on the jar and cover with a paper towel (to prevent escape). Screw lid on over the paper towel to secure it into place.
I have never had any problems with this method and one culture can produce ALOT of flies. No mold for me, just make sure everything is clean. If you have any problems, contact me. Good luck!
