An adult female Suriname............

leebarrie Jul 10, 2004 06:12 PM

She was looking pretty descent today so i snapped a quick picture. She still has some pretty good color for being a 95 or 96. I'm not sure when she was born being a wild caught. She's not the world's greatest feeder either so she's only a bit over 7'. I never have bred her as I've always had a shortage of good males. Maybe this coming season I'll throw my super stud male in with her just to see what happens.

He might be old enough to try on her this coming season. He's my favorite out of my 02 litter.

Things are just a plugging along here. Just working & waiting for boas to drop.

It's been a long time. How the heck have you been doing? If you're going to be in Daytona, we'll have to get together & have some cold ones & see if we can solve all the worlds problems.

Things are good here as well. Waiting on a couple of Suri's to drop in Aug.

I'll definitely be at Daytona and I'll buy the cold ones.
Shoot me an e-mail at goodtides@adelphia.net.

Just kidding man. I'll buy you some too. That's going to be a brutal weekend.

Good luck with the Suri's & I'll shoot you an E-mail in the morning. I'm thinking you remember that I hate E-mail so I'll write myself a note to E-mail you tomorrow.

I had a male once who may have been red enough to breed her too, but I foolishly sold him...

She is a WC too, about 6 feet...she won't eat unless I leave the f/t warmed rat in her cage and walk away...she's just shy I guess...haven't had her long, so don't know what her long term feeding habits will be like, but I hope to beef her up enough to breed next season...

Any guesses on her age? She's been in captivity one year for sure, possibly two. She's only had one owner prior to me and that is the gentleman who snatched her out of the Surinam wilds himself. I'm guessing 4-5 years??? Any other thoughts? I am thinking that she has held her color more than well for her age...I can only assume that she has never bred or had a litter in the wild...as I assume she would have darkened...

My photo skills are so crappy. The worst part is that I actually have a nice dig. camera & all I ever do is just take pics with a flash. One day I will make some time & read the manual.

My female is very picky like yours & generally eats once a month. I'm not worried about her weight at all as far as breeding goes (She is actually a bit fatter then normal because she ate a couple jumbos a couple weeks ago). My gravid 96 Guyana is wc. She only eats every couple months. Everyone says she looks very thin but she's actually quite muscular & in great shape. She's also only 6' & this will be her 2nd litter after taking last year off. I guess I'm just not a true believer in the "fat females produce better litters" theory. My theory is healthy boas produce better litters. But I digress. Just a guess on your boas age would be that she was born spring of 00, 01, or 02 depending on her growth for the year you had her. If she grew about 1' during the time you've had her then I would lean towards 01. Of course, if she is a slow grower, she could be a year or two older. My 96 Guyana was about 5' when I received her as a fresh import back in 99 so she's grown a foot since then. She hates captivity. I call her evil. She does produce nice babies though.

Anyway, your girl looks great & I would seriously doubt that she's ever bred before. Good luck with her.

& the Suri is due 7/30. I think my photopoint album is fairly up to date though I do need to go through it.

Nice looking little Suri? you've got. I swear I produced one almost exactly like it last year or the year before. I'll look through my old pics & see.
