hey anythings possible right?
if you are really asking this question, do no get a Nile. period.
Ornates (burundi) tend to be much smaller, and from my personal exp's tame much easier!
Someone is selling an ornate on the classifieds now...CHEAP! If I didn't love dumerili so much I'd snag it for myself>

The so called "ornate" for sale on the classifieds is not an ornate. Look at the pattern on the back. There are 7 rows. Ornates have 5. The one they are selling is nothing more than a common nile.
Ornates get massive, what made you think they are much smaller than common Niles?

Don't be naive. Nile monitors can *CAN* make wonderful pets. I have successfully raised three one died last year. They are great monitors. They have a bad reputation, much like pit bulls and rotwilers, the truth is. The owner makes the attitude. If you care for your niles and treat them as though they were waters or any other type of big monitor, they will grow up tamable and surprisinly interesting. They are frisky things at first, plus half of the people that say they are not good monitors have either never had one for a long enough time to actually be a good keeper, *meaning they couldn't hanldle the sitution*, or are just telling you what they have heard. I am an expert with niles. They were my beginning monitors. Yes, thats right beginning. I was inexperienced and payed for it with baby bites, but they are wonderful adults now. Treat your nile like a water and they will do great.

You'll see this answered over and over.
I myself have pasted this reply many times now "There are exceptions but it is easier to find a needle in a box of needles then in a bail of hay."
In other words if the animal is not known to be calm then it will not be easy to find a calm one. Yes they are out and around, yes you can get them used to you. No it is not likely to happen often, No there is no proven method of making them sit on your lap and do cute tricks and kiss your face.
Lastly if you need to ask this question No you should in fact not get a nile.
Hmmmm was that negative enough??????
just smear a little Au de mouse on your face and get real close.Await impending kiss.............
