Jungle Carpets

Stroke_9 Jul 11, 2004 12:09 PM

Hi,
I am considering getting a Carpet Python in October at a local reptile show, if they have them of course. But anyways, I picked the Jungle's because they are pretty and they only get a so so length, unlike Burmese or any other large python or boa. I have thrown some figures out for a decent sized cage, tell me what you think, 2' long, 2' deep, and 3' tall? Is that big enough or what? Thanks

Do a 3 by 3 by 4(Height), IT will last longer, but as a baby keep it in a rubbermaid or a smaller cage, also most carpets only get a so so length, the biggest is a coastal and they rarely pass 9-10 ft. The only thing is with a carpet you have to be able and willing to take bites from them as babies, and as adults you will be rewarded with a very calm very pretty snake.

Also you want a jungle because there pretty, Coastals are pretty, High Yellow coastals (look like jungles but get bigger), go into photo gallery and look at my gallery I have some.

Happy Herping.

I started out with my yearling jungle in a 20 gallon long tank. Then a 40 breeder size and now a 80 gallon tank. Jungles like to climb so I wanted to provide space for her to climb.
I bought mine as a yearling so she was over the nippy stage. The only time she tried to bite me was at feeding time. She thought my hand was a mouse. Now I use tongs.
I wanted a bigger snake too besides the corns and milk I have but didn't want a BIG snake like a berm or boa. So I saw this JCP at a reptile/fish store and bought her. She was handable from the get go. I'm glad of that. She is now 5 foot and due to shed any day now.
Hope all goes well for you and yours.

Flip those dimensions over, and you've got close to my ideal cage. Jungles don't really need that much height. That said, I've seen some very impressive jungles in display cages similar to those dimensions. Its really up to you, as long as you give the jungle what it needs to be healthy. Also, you're definitely not going to want to start it off in a cage that big if it is a hatchling. They tend to get insecure with that much space. A smallish rubbermaid is usually best for starting them.
