Odd Pastel Sibs w/ pic

Blake Jul 11, 2004 12:43 PM

I posted a picture of these guys Pastel father on Friday and now I have a picture of them. It is hard to see the vast difference between these guys and the other normals in the picture but it is obvious in person. These 'normal' Pastel sibs appear to lack brown. They are more yellow, orange, pink, and black with some green highlights. I will try to get better pictures that the contrast later this comming week. In this picture there are 3 Lemon Pastels, 3 Pastel sibs and 2 normals (in a ball). Notice the lack of brown in the Pastel sibs! Thanks for looking.

I've been producing screaming siblings from my Lemon Pastel for years. Keep the females and sell the good looking males for good money. A lot will look like classic jungles. Something else is going on in this line of pastels.

That is good to know. I have been producing Pastels from a male I purchased from the Sutherlands four years ago. I have produced Pastels from him for the last three years with nothing out of the ordinary but this is the first time I have bred a Lemon. I wish I had him three years ago when I started my Pastel Ghost project. I expect Pastel Het Ghost X Ghost eggs any day now! Thanks again. By the way, my ratio was:

1.2 Lemon Pastels
2.4 Lemon sibs

Must be some other nice (dominant type, and perhaps homozygous) genes worked into that line. Kind of lends support to the idea that the pastel gene is exactly the same and the differences in appearance are other genes bred into the lines.

I guess if the sibs don't have the pastel belly or any thing pastel like other than a little of the color then my idea of dad being a super from two different lines with two different qualities to the actual pastel genes is out.
