I take it you have one of each and were thinking of breeding them... Not worth much of anything at all. Most will just call the offspring "mutts" .... (Maybe our pals over on the hybrid forum will be a little kinder!). It's usually best not to produce too many of such non-descript hybrids, as you may wind up having to give them away or keep them yourself. The leucistic trait will not come into play at all as it is recessive...You will get a bunch of "generic" ratsnakes that don't quite look like normal texas and not quite like normal greys. If those are your only two snakes, and you want more ratsnakes but don't want to buy them...Then go for it! Duffy

I haven't seen or heard of that hybrid. I do have one of these white oak gray rat snake crossed to a Texas rat snake hybrids. The breeder said the babies either lean towards looking like one parent or the other. So in one aspect you could say you either get ugly Texas ratsnakes or ugly white oak gray rat snakes. There's people on the hybrid forum that have different views regarding crossing species and subspecies so you might check on that forum. I posted a pic of my snake on the hybrid forum and received some nice comments. This snake was given to me so that might help answer your value side of the post. Doesn't mean the breeder gave them all away. Then again, you might get a different answer on the hybrid forum.

actually, texas x grayrat are a natural intergrade where their ranges overlap in louisiana. some can be quite stunning while others more or less just look like grayrats. the better ones however inherit the reds and orange of a texas rat giving it a peach blush on the sides w/ some red speckling on a grayrat background. i have several of these, one that i found in my yard after being mia for 9 months! he was only about 1/3 the size of his better behaved siblings but is growing fast and turning into one of the better ones. i'll try to get a pic of them so you can see what i mean, they're really pretty! btw terry, that must be one cool dude who sent you that snake huh!? LOL!..........DD

Mine didn't seem to inherit the oranges and reds. I know the breeder mentioned there are some stunning ones in the clutch, but I didn't get one. LOL. I remember the breeder of these did a post on these, but I didn't see or hear if they received any feedback. I posted a pic of mine on the hybrid forum and got some nice feedback. I didn't know they were a natural integrade which clears a lot fo things up for me. Maybe I was informed of it, but my 60's days must be haunting me again. LOL. I remembered the breeder (he's a pretty cool, but dangerous guy) telling me the babies leaned towards looking like gray rat snakes or texas rat snakes. Mine leans towards a gray ratsnake, but he has the attitude of a Texas rat snake. He hates everone. LOL. I shouldn't use the fact I received them as a donation to answer a value question, but I did.

well, i'm irish-italian but i can't seem to find a map showing ireland and italy sharing a border anywhere. hope that doesn't mean i'm a hybrid!! that would suck.......;-] terry, you didn't hear that from me re: 'the babies either look texas or gray' as that's not been my experience. they always look gray [some brighter] and a few will eventually 'blush'. some better than others, some not at all. it does appear like you got a 'not at all'. sorry about that. [remember i was [bleep]ing about selling all the good ones off that year?] well anyway, i still have the 4 best ones from last year and i'm not gonna keep them all. just wanted to get a good loooong look for a change before i decided. write me if you're interested in another one of opp/sex. that way you can do all the pic taking and posting too. lol! ttyl........DD

You are correct, they are integrades. My bad for calling it a hybrid. Irish/Italian that explains it. LOL. It means you are a hybrid. Sorry. LOL. I didn't say I heard anything from you to my recollection. I did say I posted a pic on the hybrid forum and got some responses. I just posted what was said. I didn't do any of the breedings. I've only seen the one I posted a pic of and posted some of the responses I've gotten from breeders. I wouldn't have even brought it up except I felt I was responding to the question on a post. I was hoping that the one I have would develop the pinkish or blush color you soke of, but no luck. I still think he's cool since I still have him in my collection.
