Hello,
Uroplatus are a nocturnal species which shun light and retreat from it. Our individuals are very healthy and thriving W/O any UV suppliments.
Sincerely,
Brian

Uroplatus are a Nocturnal Genus....
thanx for your reaction,
I allready knew they're nocturnal and that animals like this don't really need uv,butt still there are species that like to bask during the day.
And since uroplatus geckos like sikorae,fimbriatus... always hide on the bark of a tree,i thought they would catch some sunlight to.
that's why i'd liked to know if there are people who use it,and if not, they'd do fine without.
i havent given them UV in the past for the reason they are nocturnal, plus the UV bulbs cost like $20 minimum. at the beginning of the year i decided to try using UV on my satanics and spinies. surprisingly, at first my spinies did not hide during the day. they would actually perch on the branches and sit in direct light all day. i have not noticed anything different from using UV though, cept it really pisses me off when someone breaks one of the bulbs.
i use uv lighting on all of my uroplatus and have noticed that when the females are gravid they bask under it more. i also use it on my growing babies and have found it to be really usefull on the two i have grown out so far. the colors on my babies are brighter than their parents.
Uroplatusguy---> What kind of UV- light do you use, what are the name of the bulb?
i use hagen reptisun 5.0 bulbs on all of my gecko collection. one thing i do is that instead of changing them every6 months i change them once a year.
Are they breeding though Brian?... I have used small amounts of UV in varying intensities and the females exposed to more (granted it was slight) produced more good eggs... People have to understand that even though they come from dense forests, they still absorb some amount of UV... I think it's much the same as someone not wearing a T-shirt on a cloudy day, but still getting their ass fried... Granted the UV would have to not only make it through the clouds but also the canopy... In other reptiles, it has been shown that some degree of UV light does yeild higher good egg production... Just my two cents...

And my henks don't hide from the light either and my females seem to enjoy basking in it as well...
