How long can a greyband survive in KY?

4everherpn Jul 11, 2004 02:30 PM

Last summer I was fortunate enough to go alterna hunting out there in Loma Alta. I was really fortunate to find an alterna the first night of hunting at 2:25am. It was an alterna pattern yearling male. My guess is it was born in 2002.

When I got back from TX I kept him in a sterilite 12qt shoebox with snap on lid. I have two of the same type of containers by the same company. After I cleaned my alterna's box I put the lid on. I thought I secured it, but appearently not. That is when I learned that the lids for those containers were not compatible.

It has been since October and I have not seen him. Do you think it could still be alive? I have not seen a sign of it anywhere. If it is still alive do you think it is somewhere in the same vicinity that it excaped still? Just wondering. It would sure be nice to find my alterna again. I will a locking mechanism on his cage when I find him (if I do).

The only way it could possibly be still alive, would be if it managed to find food and water. Do you have snakes, mice, and lizards running loose in your house as well? If not, I doubt the snake is still alive.

That is very disheartening. I have crickets that have gotten loose. We may have mice. This was my first winter in the apartment.
