Should i take him to a vet?

BrentB Jul 11, 2004 03:28 PM

I have a African Rock Python a little under 3'. When i first got him, he ate f/t rats, then he wouldnt eat those, then would only eat live. Last time i offered live, he didnt take that, ill offer a dead one today(ill post results on that later). BUT, on his lower body he has some lumps, the skin isnt broke, but i think they could possibly be fat deposits, theyve been there for a month or 2. Do you think those two things put together are worth going to the veT?

One thing that you need to remember is that young snakes utilize more of the prey item then larger animals. They have less waste since their bodies put to use most of the animal. So jsut becasue a young snkae hasn't defacated isn't necassarily a sign that something is the matter. I am not making this statement so much in your case as I would have the snake looked at simply for the lumps. This is just general information that might ease some peoples minds. Todd

How long has it been since hes eaten? Is he possibly going into a shed?

If you have a good reptile vet, that doesnt cost you an arm and a leg for just an exam, I would take him on in. It seems that if you catch these things early on, they are much easier to get rid of.

Good Luck

Its been about 2 weeks since hes eaten, im not worried about that, im just worried about how things are getting worse and worse now, not better, just worse.

I would definitely take him to a good snake vet. If the symptoms are visibly decreasing I would take him to a vet.
