New girl.. have a question (eggs)

kg Jul 11, 2004 06:50 PM

Yesterday I bought a beautiful gravid orange flame female from the San Diego show for a steal at only $75.. Turns out she was due sooner than I thought because this morning I found an egg in the cage on the paper towel (instead of the laying box I left in her cage). It's obviously fertile and is doing very well and being incubated at 80 degrees, but the problem is I only found ONE egg. I'm pretty sure she was carrying two since I saw bulges on each side of her stomach, but so far she hasn't been in much of a hurry getting the second egg out. Should I be worried about her becoming egg bound? She did have a long ride home (about 3 hours) and I'm afraid she got a little too stressed out... Does anyone else have females that lay eggs hours or even days apart? I've included a picture of her. Still can't believe she was only 75.

i got a male that look just like that only with out the black spots....i got him for 45 including a 5 gallon tank and heat pad?.....how much is that normally worth im new to these guys?

if it is the same size as the one in the pic it needs a much larger tank than a 5 gallon. A 20 gallon tall would be more appropriate for just one, maybe 2, 2 males would fight, two females would be better off. I prefer keeping males seperate because they can harass at times.

45 isn't bad at all, thats a pretty good price if it has nice coloration, is it a juvenile? sub-adult? adult?

You say your new to rhacs? If so (and in case you don't already know), then put that heat pad on a thermostat and set it to around 80 or so. Temps over 85 for any decent period of time can kill a crested gecko. Search for Anthony Caponetto (sp?) posts and check out the crested gecko section in his website, especially Allen Repashy's article. It'll fill you in on all the details, but be VERY careful with that heatpad.
