Metronidazole in water?

althea Jul 11, 2004 11:40 PM

Since this is the time of year for giardia to run rampant, I was wondering if adding metronidazole to their water might help combat outbreaks in my leo colony? Even though I keep everything very clean. . .it's just that time of year. My herp vet didn't have a definitive answer for me, and I am wondering if anyone has tried this? If so, at what proportion, and have you seen a difference in the health of your lizards? Thanks for reading this post.
regards,
althea

I am assuming you are talking about crushing tablets and adding them to water? If so you will find that the metronidazole is not very water soluble. Can you elaborate on "since this is the time giardia runs rampant", because you should only have to deworm your leo twice, 2 weeks apart. Assuming you have dewormed them, what makes you think they will acquire giardia again?
