Why would shedding go poorly?

AbsoluteRae Jul 12, 2004 09:31 AM

It seems like every other shed that my nearly 1 yo has goes poorly. I'm not sure why...I make a humidity hut for her each time. She'll have a perfect shed (everything in one piece) and the next shed will require a bath to get the skin off. Anyone know what's going on?

Hi Rae,
I make a point of misting my snakes when the are in blue, not because they need the humidity but because the will drink the water I spray onto them. I was watching an Animal planet show (yes I am an Animal Planet Junkie) where they were showing a Cobra seeking water while in blue because it needed extra water for the shed cycle. It seems very true, every corn I have ever misted (from babies to adults) will drink water from their coils while in shed cycle. Maybe the are not getting enough to drink during the cycle. Try misting them directly during the cycle, watch them drink it up and see if the problem gets better.
Good Luck

food has alot to do with it too......

if they don't eat enough or the correct food quality...they shed badly.......

....humidity plays a role .......

.......I suspect it eats well........

Yes, she's on a good diet (1-2 fuzzies a week). That's why I was confused when this last shed went poorly. She's been on fuzzies for several months and I figured the extra calcium would improve her health.
