As much as I wish that I had taken that picture, it was posted by Erik McCormack (sp?. I am the one who called it to Michael's attention, although I did not specifically mention that someone else had posted it, so it's not Michael's fault he credited me with the image. Apologies to Erik, and also congratulations on an excellent shot--he made the most of that opportunity, for sure--outstanding!
The thread below has a consistent theme, I notice--that being, when you chase the "nasty" cophis (I love it), you pay, whether you catch one or not. One recently got a hackberry tree to make payment on its behalf for my attempt to grab it. I looked like an Ocelot had climbed up my leg.
Interesting how coachwhips, which are real generalists as to their diet, have such a well-developed suite of foraging strategies, like Drys, also generalists. Drys and coachwhips sure act like the smartest American snakes (not to impugn the rest of American serpentdom--they are all just as able as they need to be, and all wondrous), and they might be. I did catch one of my captive coachwhips using the phone to call for a rescue...
