different ways to hand feed ur leopard geckos

y0m0m666 Jul 12, 2004 10:44 AM

I am trying to hand feed my leos and i need some advice. When i first bougt my leo it neva liked me. It is about 2 weeks old and i bought it at petco. It is eating fine and there nothing wrong with it except it really enjoys biting me. So i decided to hand feed at least 5 time a week. I only try to hand feed it mealies and i cote them with calcium. I dont really hand feed them cuz i use tweezers so he cant bitee me and i dont have to touch the mealies. I heard hand feed ing them will make them tame. So if any1 has any suggestions feel free to tell me.

I know I'm the one who told you to hand feed, but I don't have this problem, so I use tweezers too. Sorry! It's not so bad w/ waxies, but you can't feed them a lot.

I dont know if it will work for you, but i handfeed my gecko for three month now and he still dont like me, lol. Every meal he get since i have him, i handfeed him ! I give him his mealies one by one. I pick a mealie, then i drop him near my gecko. I leave the first mealie, my gecko came out of hiding to pick that mealie. The next one i give him but i let my hand stay there, i even play with the mealie, making him wiggle, that drive my gecko mad, lol. He take them all, even with my finger close to him, sometimes he miss the mealies and get a bite at my finger. Yesterday, i try to pick him up, he crawl trough my finger and make a run for his hiding place ! I guess i'll try again tonight.

Feeding them with something other than ur hands is the best way, not only to avoid bites but to having ur gex think ur hand is food later in life, this happens with snakes all the time. As for taming it, if its a baby still it will bite cuz they are scared, when the get bigger and ther bands start to brake up they get tamer, at lest most do.
