Is it ok to use a heat rock?

I just got a young female leopard gecko... ive had fat tail geckos in the past and always used heat rocks..but ive been reading that people say not to? is this true..and if so whats the best heating source? I dont want to fry this lizard

DONT USE HEAT ROCKS your gecko may be burned uth and heat tape are much better choices

what is heat tape? I guess im just going to get a heat pad to put underneath the tank..

I have actually used heat rocks without a problem, but USE A THERMOSTAT - NO EXCEPTIONS!!!! Really, under tank heaters or flexwatt heat tape (see beanfarm.com) are much safer, but still USE A THERMOSTAT with these as well. YOu can get them for under $20 almost everywhere. There is always the chance of a malfunction or a short that makes heating devices go full blast, so give yourself the protection.

well .. since I had bought the heatrock yesterday I had my husband return it today and get a undertank heat pad... I will definitly invest in a thermostat though! Thanks

The heat rock will be okay if you connect it to a regulator. Some sort of thermostat or rheostat. The problem with heat rocks is that they run very hot, but if you just measure the temp and keep it down you should be okay.
