I usually use a 0.8 to 1 or 0.9 to 1 water:vermiculite ratio for brooks eggs with good results.

Dave you forgot to mention if this is by weight or by volume. I usually go by weight, but anymore I just guess. lol. I seem to have equal results with perlite and it's much cleaner when babies begin to hatch. As soon as the first eggs pip, I transfer them to a new box with "damp" paper towels.

yeah, I'm a doin' it by weight. I believe contributing air is more important than contributing water for the embryos' metabolism so I am trying dryer incubating medium (0.8:1 or so) at cooler temps (78-79 degrees F). not GOBS of air like out open in the room but less water( by next year maybe 0.7 to 1 substrate to h2o by weight) so more oxygen can get into the pore spaces in the vermiculite/perlite/sphagnum. heck next year I may even try to simulate the substrate free incubation technique used in the Avey incubators.

this girl is much much prettier in person.
