I was offered a large male Arg. Red, some questions for you guys.

This lady has a male(approx 3.5ft long) and needs to find a good home for it. She got a divorce and doesn't have time for her big boy anymore. I found this all out when she came into my pet store and started talking to me about tegus. The next weekend she brought him in. I fell in love. So, a month later she offered me him and his cage for around $300. Considering that the lizard was orginally purchased from East Bay and is worth at least $500 I think it is a good deal. I could take it and I am thinking about it.

These are my concerns.

I have a room where I keep 4 snakes in it, I used to have 10 but sold them off. I was planning on making that room a some what of a relax area for myself and maybe a few of my friends. Would a tegu in the room(caged of course), make the room smell? I have a pair of boas in there that make it smell anyway, but one of the boas may be going to a zoo for a breeding project.

Also, if I let him out alot what size cage should he need? Is 8ft long too small? I want him to stay very socialized as I will take him with me to my store to show kids and stuff. He is very beautiful and bright pink and red. Plus, he is so calm.

Well, thanks in advance.

I have seen this tegu at east bay. He is a little on the small side for a male red.How big is the cage.? 300$ for both seems fare. 8'-4'wide-2' tall would do him fine.take care russ

If you spot clean the poop every day, there should be no smell from the tegu.

I also keep 9 boa and becuase I am in there every night looking for poop, there is no smell in that room...but you have to make sure that you remove all the substrate that has been in contact with their urine. This is easier to do with a snake than a lizard.
