I am in the process of building my new enclosure for my argentine bw tegu. It will be 2 stories, 7.5Lx4Dx6H for a total 60 square feet. The bottom level will be the mulch and burrowing area etc., and I plan to use 2 250 W ceramic heater attached to a thermostat just to keep the bottom at 75F (for those cold winter nights). For the top though, I want to use 1 160 W mercury vapor and 2 150 flood lights. I want to provide a very large and hot basking spot because I plan on getting another tegu to join him. While I will definately check the temps with a thermometer, I kinda wanted the experienced guys input on an approximate distance from the lamps to the basking spot. Would 2.5 feet be a good distance? I'm pretty sure the lights can support high enough temps at this distance, especially with the combination of all 3 lights, just wanna get some opinions.
