new beardie

Hi. Last night I picked up a bearded dragon from the human society - no name yet. At the moment he is in a 29 gallon tank (I'm looking for a bigger one). He has a basking light, water, food pellets and a stick/log. The society gave me the pellets and superworms. I'll get the uvb today.

I've read/skimmed the posts, however, I have a few questions. With my iguana and anole I needed one uvb tube and one basking (60 watts) light and a CHE. Do you guys use more than one basking light to get the temps up to 95 ? How do I get the temps up?

He is 14 inches long - any idea about how old that makes him? He ate one super worm when we got home. He tried another but it had pellets on it and he spat it out! Do you know how long you can keep meal worms or super worms in the fridge? Days? Weeks?

Thanks!

Tania

You can use plain household bulbs of different wattage to get the temperatures up to what you need 95-110 in the basking high area, 80 in the cool side. This along with A uvb light should be enough

Superworms do not need refrigerated, they can live for a few months in room temp, just make sure you have them on a substrate they can eat like Oatmeal flakes or corn meal (we mix both) and give them a few greens or squash for moisture.

As for age, he could be anywhere from 5 months to an adult, depending on the care he has received in the past. A good cared for baby at 5 months can reach 14 inches, but I have seen adults that are that size also. It really depends on the care they have received and the genetics in them.
