Could I see some ATB setups?

OneTwoManyHerps Jul 12, 2004 05:54 PM

Hey everyone I will be getting a Amazon Tree Boa soon and would like to see some setups. At first I will be using a rubbermaid tub of somesort until he/she gets larger then I'm going to move up to the 3' Vision Cage but until then I would love to see some cages of your own.

Thanks,

Tyler

This is my female ATB's encosure. It is a 35 gallon hexagon aquarium that i bought at a local pet store for discount becuase somewhere in its seal it doesn't hold water, but there is no damage to the glass or structure. The Top is a wire mesh that i bought off the internet that velcroes around the top and side of the top lid of the cage, its very secure. The subsrate is a mix of ground compressed cocconut (holds mosture well for humidity) and EcoEarth Jungle Mix to give larger sunstance to the subsrtate. The braches are sterilized ESU grapvines. And some decorate sterile spanish dried moss. The hood hold one full specturm bulb (not needed but gives off little heat during these hot summer days) One ESU 40W day glo bulb, and one 40W Purple phosphorescant night glo bulb.

Thanks for the compliments, i have been constantly trying to blend the easier maintenience of sterile cages, and the beauty of naturalistic cages. I like my females cage because there are no live plants to mess with, no looking tacky fake plants, hold good humidty, easy to clean and great viewing for an arboreal boid!

Good luck with your eclosures!

The maintenece isn't really that bad if you can dart the defensive strikes of an amazon tree boa. Usually she deficates in her water dish, and that is easily enough cleaned out. In the cases were she doesn't i just remove her and handle her for a while, and in the mean time go in with some paper towel and spot remove the feces, and if there is any uric acid on the branches scrub those off. When i mist in the evening i'm careful to avoid getting water onto the front glass so mineral deposits from the water dont accumulate and obscure veiwing.
