feeding my crested

polosue25 Jul 12, 2004 07:44 PM

I'm somewhat new to cresteds, having acquired a male from a friend who could no longer keep him--he's very shy but a lot of fun to watch in low light. I've been feeding him babyfood--fruits like peaches and apricots, and saw that someone here mixed meat babyfood with the fruit so I added some turkey to the fruit, but not very much---what sort of mix is best? how much and what type can I add to his fruit? (he also gets crickets, and reptocal mixed with his babyfood) thanks

Hey Sue,
I see I'm not the only one who names each and every single pet, even the babies! As far as food for the crestie, I recommend the T-Rex/Sandfire Crested Gecko diet complete meal powder supplemented w/crix. I find baby food mostly sugars and empty calories and don't consider them even suitable for HUMAN babies, let alone geckos! just my opinion. Watch out for those cresties tho', they are addictive. I'm up to 12 adults, 8 hatchlings/juvies and a dozen eggs. Terri

I'd like to switch him to CGD....but have seen from other posts that it's not always easy to get them to switch? Is it best to try to cut the new stuff with the babyfood or just switch him cold turkey and figure that he'll eat it before he starves?
thanks

A trick I learned from another internet friend: dust your crickets with the complete meal powder. They eat the crix with relish and in the meantime get used to the flavor of the gecko diet. That worked within 2 feedings of crickets with a holdout female who had REFUSED to eat the gecko diet-and here's the best part: I had purchased her from SANDFIRE at the Tinley Park NARBC last October!!!Now she gobbles it up like there's no tomorrow! Good luck!
