Bearded Dragon - Help Diagnose

ReptileRescueTX Jul 12, 2004 11:05 PM

I rescue reptiles in Texas and have not had bearded dragons arrive in such poor shape. I received 9 dragons a week ago. One was very ill and larthargic and I immediately took her in to the Vet and after $400 she is doing slightly better. She had pinworms and we put her on antibiotics in addition to the deworming. The other 8 seemed ok but very thirsty. When I soak them, they drink like crazy. I have dewormed all of them as I do with all I receive. I use Panacure. For the most part their weight is about the same, but they are not eagerly eating like I am used to seeing. They range in age from about 8 months to 2 years. One of them was more ill than the others. She is very rigid, head up (like posturing), sunken eyes, very thin. Sometimes she gapes her mouth. No marks on her that I would worry about. I have been keeping her going until I can get to the vet tomorrow, but I don't think she will make it. I think this illness must have been going on a while and she is shutting down. Any ideas on what it might be?

gaping when not under heat can be a sign of URI (upper repratory infection) and she probably has other complications

FYI, you should also offer a probiotic and make sure they stay extra hydrated when worming them.

you may also want to do a gram stain as an added precaution. there is a post on this a bit further down the list.

good luck
