reptariums for turtles?

findaratot Jul 13, 2004 01:46 AM

i have a couple of three toeds that i keep outdoors, but thinking to the future if i ever need to keep them inside i was wondering if those wire mesh reptarium by Apogee would work well for turtles. those cages would mean more humidity (the amount inside the house). has anyone ever keep turtles in one of those. its not my only option but it would be my biggest enclosure i could keep them in.

Typically, house interiors are MORE dry than outdoors, as a result of climate control. Both air conditioning and heating dry the air inside.
An open wire mesh setup indoors would not be a good idea for that reason alone, but there are others.
The best place for your turtles is outdoors, assuming you live in a climate similar to their native range.

If you have to keep them indoors for some reason I would go for a rubbermaid. Especially b/c 3-toeds need a bit more humidity and it will be easier to maintain. The reptarium is good for dryer climate turtles and torts.
I am assuming then that you keep them outdoors year round???

yah i think you are right. for some reason i was thinking the reptariums have more humidity, but that doesn't really make sense. a rubber made would probably be bigger and cheaper anyway.
thanks for the advice

P S i do keep them outside year round, but i was just thinking for emergencys and if i was moving.
