Do I keep trying to pick her up?

Beasley Jul 13, 2004 09:54 AM

I have a baby bearded dragon and when I first got her, she would let me handle her with no problem. I held her for a little bit every day. Now she runs from me when I try to pick her up like she doesn't want to be handled. Do I just keep trying to hold her or leave her alone. I don't want to cause her stress but I would enjoy holding her.

Keep holding her. If you leave her alone because she doesn't want to be held, she will become "wild". Sometimes they go through phases so consistency is the key. (on your part that is)

Joel is right. If you don't handle her, she'll quickly learn that she can run & you'll leave her alone. I don't really hold mine, I let them hold on to me. I give them enough support so they are secure, but not fully restrained.
Hope this helps,
Cricket

As of right now i'm dealing with that EXACT same scenario. My BD used to let me hold him as a small baby, but he's 2 months old now, and just runs for his life.

Wow, they are close to the same age. I wonder what it is. I just went ahead and picked her up this morning after chasing her around the cage but once I held her she calmed down. I'll just keep doing that now that I know it's the right thing to do.
