My crested buried herself =)

kozmo02 Jul 13, 2004 12:33 PM

i have a 30 gallon with 3 females in it. this morning i did my routine check to see how everyone looked and where they were all resting. I saw two of them, but i couldnt find the 3rd for a few minutes, so I look around the back side of the tank and found a big mound of super soil, and she had buried herself underneath it except for her head, it was kind of funny.

i just recently acquired her, i am pretty sure she was not pregnant, do any of you have similar experiences?

I have an adult female who did the same thing. She was completely buried except for her tail. She also happens to be unusually skittish and very difficult to handle. I found eggs about 3 days later but im pretty sure her cagemate laid them.

yea she isnt very skittish, but i found it weird/funny that she had buried herself, im glad it isnt really uncommon though.

i really dont think she is/was pregant. i think i would have noticed, but then again maybe not. I will have to see.

I have a girl who does this but only before she is about ready to lay eggs. I know when I see her doing it, it is time to start hunting the dirt box for eggs.

I use 'forest bed' which is exactly like peat moss, and I had a juvie female who liked to tunnel in it. She used to look up at me with a pile of peat moss on her head-it was hilarious! I was cleaning the cage a few months later, and I found 1 little shriveled egg! She's an adult now and uses the nest box like a good girl.
